BZCC Successfully Holds First Maintenance Skills Contest

On March 6, 2023, the first maintenance skills contest of BZCC was held in Zhejiang International Maritime College. The competition lasted for four days and attracted 24 participants from BZCC. This was also the first school-enterprise cooperation activity between BZCC and ZIMC.

Based on the key assessment techniques and basic skill requirements of the World Vocational Skills Competition, this competition has set up two sections, mechanical maintenance and avionics maintenance. Mechanical maintenance requires Competitors to complete operations on a retired aviation engine, such as the disassembly and assembly of component and tubes, fastener wire locks and so on. Avionics maintenance requires competitors to complete the following operations on the engine, such as wire check and repair, electrical plug and contactor replacement, harness layout and restoration, etc. The Competition will evaluate the basic maintenance skills of the competitors in structural, electromechanical, wire configuration and other aspects from multiple perspectives, as well as their mastery of aviation theory knowledge.

The competition sets up professional group and interest group. The establishment of professional group aims to provide a platform for front-line employees to demonstrate themselves, and to select employees with excellent skills and comprehensive qualities for the company. The setting of interest group provides a channel for non-front-line employees to access and understand aircraft maintenance process. Alfred Wang, the supply chain analyst of BZCC, shared his thoughts as a participant of the interest group. He expressed that this competition gave non-front-line employees a hands-on experience of production departments’ daily work. The operational details during the competition made everyone realize that only by doing the best in every detail can the safety of production and operation be guaranteed.

The Competitors also include six students from ZIMC. In order to help students get familiar with the maintenance process, the training specialists of BZCC served as the coaches to conduct the pre-competition operation guidance training for them. During the competition, the coaches also carefully observed and recorded the students' performance, and organized a review analysis after the competition. Mr.Wang, one of the students, said, "Participating in this competition has enabled me to understand the structure of aircraft engines, get familiar with the use of maintenance tools, and stimulate my interest in aircraft maintenance. I hope to enter the aviation industry in the future.”

After the competition, BZCC presented awards to the winners of the mechanical maintenance and avionics maintenance and the champions of the professional and interest groups.

Alex Cheng, Senior HR Manager of BZCC, said, "The successful holding of this competition benefited from efficient school-enterprise cooperation, which reflected the training and operational efficiency of BZCC. We look forward to conducting in-depth cooperation with more local schools in multiple aspects in the future, such as the integration of internship and employment, on-site training and other aspects, so as to achieve school-enterprise collaborative development and assist the operation of Boeing Zhoushan in the locality."
