737 Training Aircraft’s Zhoushan Story for Four Years Running

A Boeing 737 training aircraft painted “Soar with your dream” livery, departs from the Boeing Zhoushan site in morning sunlight, making its way slowly through the gate of the airport division of Zhoushan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone. It makes farewell at the end of its training journey to Zhoushan with the mission and glory of enhancing the painting skills of local teams, validating the production process, and disseminating aviation knowledge after completing 23 training modules as part of extensive aviation training over the years.

Honing Painting Skills

The main objectives of the Boeing Zhoushan Completion Center (BZCC) in establishing its production capabilities are to progressively enhance the painting skills of local teams to meet the standards of the Boeing Seattle production line and to refine and sustain high levels of painting expertise. By the end of 2019, BZCC decided to initiate a training project for 737 whole aircraft painting skills. Serving as a core training tool, a retired 737-700 aircraft was leased from Harbin. The Boeing Zhoushan team traveled as far as 2500 kilometers to bring the aircraft, which was refreshed from an old idle aircraft after precise assembly locally.

The painting skills training program has been implemented with a focus on five guiding principles: honing painting skills, simulating the production process, verifying the timeliness of the supply chain, ensuring environmental protection and safety, and guaranteeing the availability of supporting equipment. Through cross-functional cooperation and mutually supportive collaboration, the local painting team has developed a training plan comprising four sets of paint systems. These systems are based on a combination of Boeing paint process and livery designs from China's airlines to ensure a productive and high-quality outcome.

"Significant investment in training demonstrates Boeing Zhoushan's persistent pursuit of first-time quality and steadfast determination to make the Boeing Zhoushan team a high-level professional organization," said BZCC's CEO Dermot Swan. "The Boeing Zhoushan team has adhered to the prime principle of 'safety of people, safety of product,' committed at all times to providing 737 completion services with the high-quality and has served as an important engine for the development of the local aviation manufacturing sector."

Unique Livery for Dream Seedlings

The 737 training aircraft serves as a tool not only for skills training but also for spreading aviation knowledge to help local youngsters cultivate an interest in gaining more insights.

The "Welcome to Zhoushan" themed livery on the training aircraft is the outcome of the 5th training module by the paint team. The design originated from a painting of fishermen by students from Zhoushan Huiminqiao Primary School. These local students were invited to witness the birth of a splendid livery transferred from the colorful paint showcasing the Zhoushan ocean. During this time, students were actively introduced knowledge about aircraft production processes and aircraft dynamics. They also had the opportunity to experience firsthand the process of making premasks, aiming to spark their interest in the aviation industry and cultivate an early passion for flight.

The "Soar with Your Dream" themed livery is the result of the 10th painting training module, featuring a series of Boeing iconic aircraft flying in the clear blue sky painted on the rear half of the fuselage. These aircraft demonstrate excellent results from Boeing's 100-year development history, spanning from the C-type biplane designed by Boeing’s first engineer, Mr. Wang Zhu, to the 747-8 Intercontinental and 787-9 Dreamliner. "Soar with Your Dream" is named after Boeing China's aviation knowledge popularization program. With this painted training aircraft, Boeing Zhoushan invited several dozens of local students to participate in three activities aimed at spreading high-quality aviation knowledge and education resources in Zhoushan, a picturesque coastal city.

The 737 training aircraft's story in Zhoushan began with the pursuit of excellence in skills and production quality. It was further enriched by knowledge sharing and fostering dreams among youngsters. Boeing Zhoushan is committed to becoming a stronger hub for the aviation manufacturing sector at higher levels. The aim is to cultivate the world's leading talents in aviation manufacturing and management and provide high-quality aircraft for our Chinese customers through an enhanced delivery experience.
